It’s important to note how differently Tris reacted to her parents’ deaths. When her mother was shot, she cried and yelled out. But when her father died, it was a different kind of sadness. In some ways, she had seen it coming, had prepared herself for yet another loss. So when she saw Caleb bending over her father’s dead body, she didn’t cry. She simply stood there and let the grief wash over her. She didn’t cry, but at that point, she was so done.
